Hearts of Hope Foundation is committed to making heartsofhope.org.au usable by everyone, regardless of disability, assistive technology, or device. This Statement records our target conformance level, the measures we take, and how anyone can give us feedback or request content in an alternative format.
§ 01Commitment
We treat accessibility as a baseline requirement, not an after-thought. Our obligations under the Disability Discrimination Act 1992(Cth) and the Australian Human Rights Commission's World Wide Web Access advisory notes are reflected in how we design, build, and review the site.
§ 02Target conformance WCAG 2.1 AA
The target conformance level for heartsofhope.org.au is Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA. This is the level recommended by the AHRC for Australian Government and not-for-profit organisations and is the level we treat as the floor, not the ceiling.
§ 03Measures we take
Semantic HTML and ARIA roles where appropriate (e.g. radiogroups, labelled form fields, focusable interactive elements);
Sufficient colour contrast in our standard palette, validated against WCAG 2.1 AA contrast ratios;
Visible keyboard focus on every interactive element, with logical tab order;
Alt text on every meaningful image and decorative-image flagging where appropriate;
Form fields paired with explicit <label> elements; error messages associated with the field;
Accessible form validation that does not rely on browser-native messages alone (we are reviewing where noValidate is used);
Responsive layouts that work at 200% zoom and on small screens without loss of content;
No content that flashes more than three times per second.
§ 04Known limitations
Some content on the site may not yet meet our WCAG 2.1 AA target. Where we are aware of such gaps, we record them here with a remediation date, and we welcome reports of any gap not yet listed:
Donate form validation. The donation form currently relies on visual indicators for required fields and disables native browser validation. Re-instating programmatic, screen-reader-friendly validation is on the roadmap before online donations are switched on.
Third-party content.Links to third-party registers (ACNC, DFAT, UN, state regulators) open in those organisations' sites and are not within our accessibility control.
[OPERATOR PLACEHOLDER list any specific failures found by axe-core / WAVE audits with a remediation date before this Statement leaves draft state.]
